Dibrugarh administration reviews disaster preparedness

DIBRUGARH, May 5: Dibrugarh Deputy Commissioner and chairman of   District Disaster Magement Committee, MS Manivann, called upon all government departments, army, para military forces to complete all preparation to meet any kind of tural disaster  efficiently.

Manivann was presiding over an emergent meeting  organized at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference room recently with a  view to sensitize people about various precaution to be taken during any kind of tural catastrophe  like the earthquake in Nepal.   He suggested to organize mock drill in schools and other educatiol institutions so that the students could learn what steps and measure they should adopt during tural disasters. The DC also stressed  to identify rain-fed flood prone areas of the town and  instructed concerned department and municipality to initiate adequate measures to meet it effectively.

After threadbare discussion, the meeting directed the Inspector of school, town and country planning department, municipality and firefighting department to assess the infrastructural condition of government and private buildings, educatiol institutions, hospitals and the facilities available for fire fighting. The meeting also resolved to constitute a task force in each ward of municipality, village panchayats and each block development level. The meeting also directed the disaster magement authority and circle officers to arrange public sensitization meeting. The emergent meeting instructed the various departments to find out ways and means for maintaining  uninterrupted supply of drinking water,  communication network and to pinpoint an open areas during disaster.  

The meeting called upon all officials and employees of government departments to participate in rescue and relief operation during the period of disaster.

The Superintendent of Police, Ra Bhuyan, Additiol Deputy Commissioner, Ri Mech and senior officials of army, civil defense, para-military attended the meeting.

The members paid rich tribute and observed one-minute silence to pay respect to all those killed  in the devastating  earthquake  of Nepal.
