Dibrugarh Bengali High School gears up for centery celebration

Dibrugarh, Nov 30: Dibrugarh Bengali High School (DBHS) is going to achieve the remarkable feat of completing 100 years on December 4 and as such, is gearing up for celebrations to mark the occasion. Established in 1918 as a primary school, it later gained the status of a high school. The first batch of 10th standard of this school passed out way back in the year 1941, six years before India gained Independence.

The school has maintained a good academic record too with many of its students securing ranks in the HSLC examitions being held over the years. Located at the heart of the town, the colonial era school has produced many such pupils who later went on to become famous persolities. Some of them include noted jourlist and poet Arun Bagchi; veteran Rabindra Sangeet and playback singer Subir Sen; acclaimed France-based artist Saktipad Barman and former football player Sailendu Dasgupta. The school has also been visited by several dignitaries in the past, including the first Chief Minister of West Bengal, Dr. Bidhan Chandra Rai; noted litterateur Kumar Sanyal and Congress leader Sucheta Kripalini.

The DBHS Centery Celebration Committee has decided to turn the occasion into a year-long celebration beginning from Monday. Noted educatiolist as well as former president of the Axam Xahitya Xabha, Dr. gen Saikia, will grace the iuguration ceremony as the chief speaker. As a part of the celebrations, the school will also organize a ‘mini-marathon running’ competition on December 10.
