Dibrugarh, May 3: The Deputy Commissioner and chairman of the Disaster Magement Directorate, MS Manivann, in a directive issued on Tuesday keeping the greater interest of the people in view, has notified all the residents, businessmen, business organizations and offices here to stop their illegal construction works and to keep the draige system clear for water to flow.

Issuing the directives, Deputy Commissioner MS Manivann stated that if the persons or authorities concerned fail to comply with the directives, the Dibrugarh Municipal Board and Development Authority and District Rural Agency would take the necessary steps to carry out eviction drive over such illegal construction sites or premises.

Similarly, in a separate directive, the authorities of Assam Power Distribution Company have been asked to shift the transformers and electric posts to their exact places by May 31, which have been erroneously placed near drains and other tural water bodies.

It has come to the notice of the District Commissioner and Disaster Magement Agency that in Dibrugarh town and its adjoining areas, some residents, businessmen and business organizations and offices, have unofficially been constructing walls by disposing of slender Hume Pipes in the drains. This leads to clogging of drains and formation of soil and filth, thereby resulting in severe conditions of artificial floods.
