Dibrugarh district administration gears up to deal with flood

DIBRUGARH, MARCH 14: The district-level Flood Relief Committee’s meeting was held at the Deputy Commissioner (DC)’s conference room on Friday with DC MS Manivann in the chair. The meeting was attended by senior officials of various departments, Revenue Circle Officers, Block Development Officers, and officials of Police, Para-military and Air Force.

Manivann, while initiating the discussion had called upon all officials to complete all preparedness in advance so that immediate rescue and relief operation could be undertaken during disaster of flood. He further suggested for associating panchayat members in distribution of relief materials among the flood victims and need to impart special water diving training among the local youths of flood prone areas by SDR Force.

Asking health and veteriry officials to keep stock of essential drugs and medicine, the DC suggested the Block Development officers of the district to keep motorized and paddle boats ready for emergency purpose. 

For smooth transportation of relief materials to the flood victims, the PWD department was asked to repair all approachable roads before the flood. Manivann also instructed the officials of Flood Control Department to always keep an eye on the condition of dyke, besides issuing directive to the Public Health Engineering Department to take necessary arrangements for supplying pure drinking water. He also suggested the circle officers of the district to identify the site where relief camp could be set up at the time of emergency.

The DC further informed the meeting that the flood-affected people could avail relief and rescue help by informing in toll free helpline number 1077, to be installed at the DC office.

 Manivann had instructed Dibrugarh Municipality Board, Town Development Authority to prepare plan and programme on emergency basis and its proper and early execution to suitably face the rainwater-fed artificial flood in the Dibrugarh town.

The meeting was attended by the Additiol Deputy Commissioner, Lakhi ndan Gogoi and Project Director of DRDA, Vibeka Phukan.
