MANGALDAI: Dibrugarh District Sports Association emerged as the champion in the 67th Khirod Barua Senior Inter District Football Tournament at Bhergaon as they defeated Tinsukia District Sports Association 1-0 in the final today. Bhergaon District Sports Association hosted the tournament with participation of eight participating district team who earlier were qualified for the tournament from four zones of the state. Both the teams in the final match displayed a tough fight but only to make the first half without a single score. At the eleventh hour of the second half of the match, Dibrugarh team taking the opportunity of a penalty kick scored the lone score against Tinsukia team to bag the champion’s trophy.
Earlier, Secretary of Assam football Association Hemendra nath Brahma released ‘Krirangan’-a souvenir published by the organizers to mark the tournament while Executive Member of BTC for Sports & Youth Welfare Doneswar Goyari inaugurated the final match in presence of Deputy Speaker of BTC Assembly Nerswn Boro and Executive Member Lwmshrw Daimary. Referee Nirmal Bhattacharyya with all cooperation from Ilis Musahary, Dwisum Basumatary and Bapu Ram Boro smoothly conducted the match. It may be mentioned here that in the history of this tournament, for the first time in this tournament the organizers have given is away a cash amount of Rs. 15000.00 to the champion team and Rs. 10000.00 to the runners up which is surely going to inspire and encourage the footballers of the State.
