Dibrugarh Police nab Four Persons for assaulting Cops

The Dibrugarh Police has registered a case against the accused.

Dibrugarh: Four miscreants, including three from one family, were arrested by the Dibrugarh Police on Wednesday. The arrested persons allegedly assaulted police officials during an Independence Day checking on in Banipur area of Dibrugarh.

The arrested persons have been identified as Rabi Baruah, a businessman, his wife Joon Baruah, his son Akash and an Assam Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) leader Bijit Dutta.

The Police said that the incident took place at around 1.30 AM in the morning when a four-member team of the Dibrugarh Police stopped an unregistered car near Banipur . The police officials asked the occupants of the car to open the boot, but they refused to do so and instead attacked them with punches and blows.

The Police further stated that all the occupants of the car were in a drunk condition. Four policemen, including DSP Anurag Sharma, constables Phanindra Mohan, Kumud Sonowal and driver-cum-constable Pabitra Dutta suffered injuries in the assault.

Another Police team immediately reached the spot and arrested the four miscreants.

The Police have registered a case against the accused at the Dibrugarh Police Station under Sections 143/353/333/342/294/506. The accused have been taken to judicial custody after being produced in front of the court on Thursday.
