DIG NDRF reviews disaster preparedness in Assam

MIRZA, Jan 18: SS Guleria, Deputy Inspector General (East and North East) tiol Disaster Response Force reviewed disaster preparedness in Assam during a three day visit to the State from Jan 15 to 17. The DIG NDFR, took stock of the alertness at 1ST NDRF stationed at Patgaon, Greater Mirza and Mirza DIET, a press release stated. During the visit, the DIG NDRF also interacted with the officers and personnel of 1st NDRF, and stated that, “North East Region of India falls under seismic zone v and the rescue operations in flood, landslide, earthquake and mountain areas are difficult as well as challenging also.” He also visited the Unit hospital and distributed fruits to the patients.  He whole heartedly appreciated the expertise of the rescuers of Bn NDRF. While addressing the officers and personnel of 1st NDRF he said, “The rescue operations in mountain areas are challenging and sometimes evacuation by air also not possible. In such cases the real strength and real stami of rescuers and ability to survive in extremely hostile conditions will be the only way for effective response to the trapped people. The use of local and traditiol method of climbing and rappelling as shown in the demonstration will be highly effective. I am happy that in mountain rescue cases so far, NDRF has done extremely well.” He also visited Campus Greater Mirza and interacted with the jawans.
