Digi Dhan Mela in Goalpara witnesses enthusiastic participation of people

Goalpara, Feb 1: With a view to promote digital mode of payment and bring awareness about cashless transactions, the Goalpara district administration arranged a two-day Digi-Dhan Mela at Goalpara College field on January 30 and January 31.  Around 17 banks, four telecom companies, several insurance companies, Self-Help Groups, traders and representatives of panchayati raj institutions participated in the Digi Dhan Mela. At least 59 decorated stalls were put up for the convenience of the public and about 10,000 people visited the stalls in two days. Showing a positive response to the initiative of the administration, total 5,110 bank accounts were opened in the Mela.  The programme was preceded by two rallies covering the town and participated by about 1,000 students from different educatiol institutions. JVN Subramanym, Deputy Commissioner, flagged off the rally. Following the rallies, the Mela was iugurated by the DC in presence of Amitava Sinha, SP, Farouk Alom, DDC and several other regiol SBI officers. A publicity van was also launched on the occasion which will carry all the required documents for opening new accounts and KYC forms. Awards are also given to the best performing stalls, besides giving three awards to three lucky customers who installed and transacted through the BHIM app.   The programme ended with a vote of thanks by the district administration and with an appeal to carry forward the cashless transactions in the entire district.
