Diploma Course in English Inaugurated at Gurucharan College Silchar

Silchar: The 83-year-old premier institute Gurucharan College, Silchar, is on a roll. It has added another jewel in its crown by introducing a one year diploma Course in creative writing in English under the aegis of the Department of English of this college.

It is the first college in the entire northeast to start such a diploma Course which has been aimed to enrich the creative writing power and vocabulary of the students enrolled. 42 students have got themselves admitted for the course.

Addressing the august assembly of teachers and students as the chief guest, senior journalist and president of the governing body of the College, Prof Jyoti Lal Chowdhury, hailed the day as a red letter day in the history of the college. He said, “The course aims to hone the skills of creative writing in the students. Each one of us has some or the other talent. There is a need to nurture and nourish the latent talent. The secret of achieving success in this highly competitive writing world is to keep on trying again and again.” His chequered career in journalism started with a sort of creative write ups. From there on, it was like a professional journalism.

Prof Chowdhury stressed on the importance of writing articles, literary pieces, poems, stories and novels. “If a writer fails to attract the readers, he can never achieve success. The course will create job and employment opportunities for the students,” he said.
