Grand Master Diptayan Ghosh wins Chess title

GUWAHATI, July13: Grand Master Diptayan Ghosh clinched the title of 2nd International Fide Rating Chess Tournament which was concluded at Desbhakta Tarun Ram Phukan complex here today. Diptayan collected eight points from the nine rounds competition. In the last game he defeated S Vikramjit Singh and the victory also ensured the title. The champion received a trophy and prize money of Rs 50 thousand.

Altogether 251 players participated from different states in the championship. Prizes also awarded to the best Assam, best Guwahati, best NE, U-7, 9,11,13,15 and 17 years, best female and unrated players. Former governor of Meghalaya R S Mushahary attended the closing function as chief guest. The other guests present in the closing ceremony were Vice president of Sports Authority of Assam Queen Ojah and the secretary of the Assam Sports Journalist Association Bidyut kalita.
