Dirang ready for 'Festival of Speed'

Itagar, April 6: The stage is set for the second edition of the J K Tyre Aruchal Festival of Speed with more than 60 participants to battle speed in Dirang, West Kameng district. This year’s event has attracted some of the best rally divers in the country out of which more than half the field comprises local talent representing the North East. The three day event will run from Apr 7 to 9. President Motorsports Club of Aruchal Lhakpa Tsering said the team is ready for the ‘mega speed show’. We are positive that the JK Tyre Aruchal Festival of Speed will showcase not only the wealth of rally talent in the North East, but will also get the chance to rub shoulders against the very best in the country like 2013 APRC champion, Gaurav Gill, he added.

With more than 60 confirmed entries, the JK Tyre Aruchal Festival of Speed will also showcase the aim of the Motorsports Club of Aruchal, which is to bring motorsports action to the region thereby promoting tiol integration with competitors from various parts of the country.

Apart from Gill, the other big mes of Indian rallying like Sunny Sidhu, Philippose Mathai, Rahul Kantraj and Amanpreet Ahluwalia to me a few, will be dazzling the spectators with their driving skills and car control, Tsering informed.

The local talents of the North East will be led by Lima Jamir, the winner of the Raid de Himalaya 2002 and Jitu Kalita, from Dirang, who is known to be the most fearless and raw talent that exists in the motorsports scene in the North East, Tsering added.

The unique feature of the JK Tyre Aruchal Festival of Speed is the combition of three forms of off-road racing and rallying in a single platform.

During the three day adventure, the participants will be competing in Autocross, Rally Sprint and Hill Climb. Another feather in the cap of the organisers is the addition of the Quad class, in which five confirmed entries have been received. Autocross, which is a closed circuit form of off-road racing, will be held at the Lopon Stadium, after which the contestants will be put to test in the Rally Sprint at Sangti Valley, with 8-km Hill Climb as the climax of the event.

To make the JK Tyre Aruchal Festival of Speed even more interesting, the participants will be accommodated in the rally village that has been specially set on the bank of the Meyong River that runs through the heart of the Dirang.

The JK Tyre Aruchal Festival of Speed will run under the technical and safety regulations laid down by the Federation of the Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI), which is the governing body for motorsports in India. The second edition of the JK Tyre Aruchal Festival of Speed carries prize money of more than Rs 5 lakh.

The Aruchal Festival of Speed 2015 is sponsored by tyre giant, JK Tyre. Apart from high-speed action, cultural shows and rock performances will add extra zing to this carnival of motorsports, Tsering informed.
