Discussion on Integrated Child Protection Scheme held

KOKRAJHAR, June 29: The NEDAN Foundation, an NGO based in Kokrajhar, on Tuesday organized a district-level orientation-cum-training with duty bearers on ICPS and child protection schemes and legislation at District Rural Development Agency Conference Hall, Kokrajhar.

The orientation-cum-training was attended by duty bearers of CWC and Child Protection Officer on strengthening of ICPS and child protection in Kokrajhar. Chairperson of NEDAN Foundation, Digambar rzary stated the issues of child protection and education in the meeting. He said orientation workshop for all SMCs, RSTCs and KGBVs, VCDC members on RTE and child protection issues at the village-level will be carried out in order to promote child welfare.

The chairperson of CWC, Malaya Deka spoke about the burning issues of girl child exploitation, child marriage and child abuse. She briefed regarding the CWC’s role for child welfare and spoke about existing child protection acts and related the issues with the current cases. Louis Basumatary, Protection Officer of District Child Protection Unit, Kokrajhar, spoke about the role of Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS). The Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS) is a centrally sponsored scheme, with the primary aim of establishing a safety net of dedicated and quality personnel, structures and services for child protection across the country. The objective of the Scheme is to provide a safe environment for the development and well being of children in difficult circumstances. It seeks to reduce vulnerabilities to situation and actions that lead to abuse, neglect, exploitation and separation of children from their families.
