Dispur moves CID for probe

P&RD interview Anomalies

GUWAHATI, May 24: Bucking under the pressure Dispur has decided to move the CID to conduct an inquiry into alleged rampant irregularities that took place during the examinations conducted by the Panchayat & Rural Development (P&RD) department on Sunday for the recruitment of various posts.

State P&RD Minister Naba Kumar Doley has instructed his department to write to the CID with a plea to investigate the alleged irregularities. The department is in a tight spot after rampant irregularities were reported in the examination conducted on Sunday for the recruitment of 945 posts. Even though P&RD commissioner JB Ekka is already conducting an inquiry, the department has moved the CID following intense pressure from various organizations and examinees for an independent probe.

Sources said question papers for the examinations were not sealed. “Normally, it is the candidates who should open the seal of the question paper. But during the Sunday’s examination, the question papers were open, making them vulnerable to leaks,” the sources said. While there were reports of shortage of question papers in some centres, the paper was also leaked in Whatsapp at some places. “The CID must investigate this loophole thoroughly. It is not yet known whether the P&RD will entrust the CID to probe this angle,” the source said.
