Dispur to release funds for civic bodies soon

GUWAHATI, June 16: State Fince Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today said that the government will very soon release the fincial assistance to the municipal boards and town committees of the State.

Sarma said this in a meeting held in the city with the chairman and vice-chairman of the municipal boards and the town committees run by BJP in the state. There are 22 municipal boards and 23 town committees in the state run by BJP.

Several chairmen of the municipal boards and town committees have alleged in the meeting that development activities under the municipal boards and town committee areas were plagued in the past because of not releasing fund by the then Congress government.

The then Congress Government had promised to develop the towns in the State as “smart towns” equipped with modern amenities.

The party also promised to double the fincial assistance by the State Government from Rs 500 crore to Rs 1,000 crore in 74 municipal bodies and town committees.

Speaking at the meeting, Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal urged the municipal boards and town committers to work sincerely for the development of the small towns.

He also asked to launch massive cleanliness and plantation drive to make the towns of the state clean and green.
