Silchar, April 9: Cachar district Congress committee on the call of Congress president Rahul Gandhi staged an 8-hour hunger strike in front of the statue of Khudiram Bose, Park road in Silchar on Monday and highlighted the failures of BJP government. Addressing the gathering, president of district Congress committee said, “Atrocities and violence on people of SCs, STs and Dalit are on the rise. The present government has failed to provide safety and social security to them.” Congress has alleged that the Modi government was diluting the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
“Atrocities are continually inflicted upon the Dalits residing in the Northern parts of the country. Sometimes, they are even burnt alive. Congress will always stand for their rights. Modi government has failed miserably. Of late, a number of BJP leaders have been indulged and involved in rape cases. But, the government is bent upon saving them at any cost. The 7 Dalit MPs of BJP have also said that BJP has failed in its duty to provide protection,” Pradip Dey added to say. Former minister Ajit Singh accused Prime Minister rendra Modi’s of maintaining a stoic silence over the concerns of Dalits. They said that the government is indifferent to the pains, sorrows and sufferings of the Dalits.
