Dittakchera people continue to suffer due to heavy erosion

A Correspondent

Haflong, June 22: Following heavy land erosion on the bank of Jatinga river at Dittakchera, at least 15,000 people remain confined and cut off from the rest of the country since June 14. People in Dittakchera are living on the bank of Jatinga river which has engulfed more than 40 per cent of the land, including the main road and even a temple. Devastating erosion of land on the bank of the river measuring several kilometres along the river has become a serious threat to the residents of Dittakchera. Till date no authority or agency felt it necessary to visit the place to take stock of the situation, people alleged. People of Dittakchera had earlier approached several agencies and authorities with a request to construct a bridge over the Jatinga river but their efforts have yielded no result so far.
