Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) arrested, Bureau of Investigation (Economic Offences) gains Upper Hand

GUWAHATI, Aug 1: Absconding Golaghat DFO Rajib Kumar Das was arrested by the BI(EO) {Bureau of Investigation (Economic Offences)} on Wednesday.
The BI(EO) has gained the upper hand in the investigation into the Doigrung Sand Mahal scam with the Golaghat DFO caught in its dragnet. The DFO had been absconding for a long time. The Bureau had filed a case (25/17 under Section 120B/420/468/471/406/409/34 IPC R/W Section 41 of the AFR Act, 1995) in 2017 in connection with the scam. With the arrest of the DFO, the total number of arrests made in the scam has gone up to six. Others arrested earlier in the scam are Golaghat range officer Praneswar Das, deputy ranger Mukul Ali Hazarika, Abdul Milu, Abdul Hasmat and Gautam Upadhay. Three other accused in the scam – Golaghat ACF Prafulla Chandra Lahkar, protection range officer Jitendra Nath Dutta and deputy ranger Umesh Chandra Dutta – are still absconding.
