Don Bosco School to celebrate Rongali Bihu

Guwahati, May 5: The Don Bosco School, Panbazar, Guwahati will celebrate the 11th Don Bosco Annual Rongali Bihu Utsav in a befitting manner with a two–day programme on May 13–14 at the school premises, a press release said.

With a view to help the students of the city of Guwahati to imbibe the spirit of this unique festival of Assam, the Don Bosco School has started this celebration in 2006. Further, to make the children aware of the rich tradition of Assam, workshops on Assamese tradition and customs have been regularly organised preceding the days of the iuguration programme. This year too, a 13–day workshop (April 28–May 11) is presently being conducted at the school premises on the nuances of Bihu dance and the beats of the dhol. This workshop is being conducted under the watchful eyes of Ranjit Gogoi and his team comprising of renowned Bihu Samraggis and dhulias of Assam. On May 13, 2016, a shared Bihu jolpan (traditiol Bihu delicacies) will be organised among the school students who would enjoy the mouth–watering pithas and laroos among themselves. The formal iuguration of the Bihu Utsav will be on the morning of May 14 by the distinguished chief guest along with school Principal Fr. Sebastian Mathew. This would be followed by an exhibition of traditiol Assamese parapherlia, an inter–house Bihu nritya competition among the four houses of the school, and filly the cultural afternoon at the Don Bosco School Bihutoli which will have a hussori performance by Ranjit Gogoi’s team, chorus by school teachers, classical dance by school students, performance by the school band, a song by school’s music teacher Papu Gohain and modern songs by the guest artist.
