Dr Ambedkar's contributions recalled

MARGHERITA, April 16: The 124th birth anniversary of Bharat Rat Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar was celebrated recently at Margherita India Club. It was organized by Assam Anusuchit Jati Yuba Chaatra Santha (AAJYCS), Tinsukia District Committee and Margherita Regiol Committee jointly.

The Association flag was unflured by Munin Phukan, president of AAJYCS Tinsukia district committee. After lighting of candles at Dr Ambedkar’s portrait by Ram Prasad Ambedkar, president of Margherita Jourlist Association and also the president of the organizing committee, art competition, dance and singing competition were also held among children.

Gopal Chandra Das, Superintendant of Custom and Central Excise, was the chief guest of the open meeting. Mithuram Rajak, president of AAJYCS Margherita Regiol Committee, Ram Prasad Ambedkar, Ram Dayal Nirala, Headmaster of Lakhipather School, Digboi, Bikash Dasgupta, noted Communist writer of Margherita and Shibu Talukder, secretary general of Federation of Buddhist Barua Welfare Association of Assam, were present.

Gopal Chandra Das in his iugural speech emphasized the contribution of Dr BR Ambedkar towards our country and the making of the Constitution of India. Ram Prasad Ambedkar said that Dr BR Ambedkar fought against untouchability and hence embraced Buddhism. Biswasjit Das, general secretary of Assam Anusuchit Jati Yuba Chaatra Santha, Margherita Regiol Committee, said that Dr B R Ambedkar was a great person and every Assamese should follow his principle of ‘Ahimsa Param Dharma’.
