Dr. BD Mishra and Chief Minister Pema Khandu Extends Oriah Greetings

Itanagar: Arunachal Governor Brig (retd) Dr. BD Mishra and Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Friday extended their greeting to the people of the State, particularly the Wancho community on the occasion of Oriah Festival.

The Governor expressed his hope that the festivity would spread the message of love, peace and communal harmony.

In his message, Dr BD Mishra said Oriah festival is observed to invoke the blessing of the Almighty ‘Rangwa’.

“It helps us to preserve our age old traditions and at the same time, it promotes respect for the elders, guests and community. The occasion brings about emotional integration, brotherhood and amity among our citizens which bestows prosperity, happiness and peace in the society,” he said.

Pema Khandu in his message emphasized on wholehearted participation of all irrespective of religious affiliations in the indigenous festivals like Oriah that symbolizes the distinct cultural identity of the community.

“Our festivals are our ever lasting link to our customs, traditions and cultural heritage. In a world of extreme commercialization, we have the onerous responsibility not only to keep alive our culture but also to pass it on to the next generation. Loss of culture is loss of identity,” he said.

The Chief Minister, while lauding the Wanchos for maintaining their supreme expertize in textile, handicrafts and traditional wood carving, prayed to the Almighty Jowan Rang for peace and prosperity for all.
