Dr gen Saikia’s birth anniversary celebrated as Mitbhas Divas

Dibrugarh, Feb 14: Eminent litterateur, scholar, author and former president of Axam Xahitya Xabha, Dr. gen Saikia, recently celebrated his 79th birth anniversary as ‘Mitbhas Divas’ at a function jointly organized by the members of Dr gen Saikia Memorial Trust and DHSK College at the Srimanta Sankardev Auditorium of DHSK College. 

Welcoming the guests and others, DHSK College Principal Dr. Sasikanta Saikia, expressed his happiness over celebrating Dr. Saikia’s birthday at the college premises and later gave a short outline of his book Mitbhas. Dr gen Saikia, in a reply to a question posed by retired physician, Dr. Tankeswar Bhuyan, mentioned the beauty of mind as superior to that of beauty of a woman and termed creative art as the real beauty rather than physical beauty. In his deliberation, Dr. Saikia stated that the magnificence of real beauty laid in creative art.

The function was anchored by Professor of MDKG College, Rat Dutta, while the objectives of the function were stated by the secretary of Saraswat Nyas Parishad, Biren Baruah.  He said that the latest book of Dr. gen Saikia was his best work till date. Baruah further informed that Barmala would be developed into a modern library and then turned into a full-fledged library. He further stated that special initiatives would be taken to translate the books of Dr. gen Saikia in other languages and to publish his other works which are yet to be published.

Earlier the programme started off with presentation of Mangalacharan by artist, Dr. Aditi Baruah and then the  Professor of CT College, Dr. Mashi Gogoi Borgohain, Hindi author, Devi Prasad Bagradia and Prof. Rat Dutta, recited   poems in presence of distinguished guests like writer Jyoti Borgohain, Mashi Borgohain, Nirmal Sahewala, Prof. of Dibru College, Madhumita Goswami, Prof. Mahesh Jain , Prof. Sohanlal Yadav, actress Jhar Saikia, Prof. Tarun Gogoi, other well-known persons of the town and students. The vote of thanks was delivered by Prof. Biren Baruah.

Dr. gen Saikia’s literary piece Mitbhas was published in the Assamese daily Notun Dainik, on February 16, 1992. He became the president of Axam Xahitya Sabha in the year 1997.
