Dr Mary Hranngul promoted as Commandant

SHILLONG, April 8: The first woman medical officer in Assam Rifles, Dr Mary Hranngul was promoted to the rank of Commandant on Friday.

A Shillong girl-Dr Hranngul who is presently serving in the Assam Rifles headquarter, Laitkor as staff officer was Commissioned on January 18.

Dr Mary Hranngul is the eldest daughter of (Late) Rev C Hranngul and Mrs Kimi Hranngul of Madanriting, Shillong. She is an alumnus of St Mary’s College, Shillong and Gauhati Medical College, Guwahati. According to the Assam Rifles, Dr Mary Hranngul is also the only medical officer till date to have been awarded a Police Medal for Gallantry by the President of India during the Republic Day 2012.

She was feted for her active role in counter insurgency operations in Manipur.

During her 13 years of unblemished career, she has served in Assam, Mizoram, Manipur and galand in various appointments.
