Dr Nazrana Ahmed becomes first woman planter  to head ATPA

Dibrugarh/Jorhat, July 1: In a first in the history of the tea industry of Assam, Dr. Nazrana Ahmed became the first woman planter to be elected as the chairperson of the Assam Tea Planters’ Association (ATPA). The crucial decision was taken at the executive meeting of ATPA where Ahmed was elected unanimously for the top post for the two-year term (2018-2020). Ahmed, who is the Director of Ahmed Tea Co. (P) Limited, Bairagimath, Dibrugarh, and is currently serving the body as its vice-chairperson, will assume the charge of her new role as the 35th chairperson of ATPA at the 81st AGM of the association, slated for July 13 at the Jorhat Gymkhana Club. Ahmed, a third generation planter from Dibrugarh, is also a lawyer, and comes across as a capable and successful planter. The executive meeting also witnessed Gautam Barooah, Managing Director of Muktabari Tea Estates (P) Limited, being elected for the post of the vice-chairman of ATPA for the same time period.
