Dr Rajdeep Roy Exudes Confidence To Win Lok Sabha Polls

Special Correspondent

SILCHAR: After being nominated for Silchar Lok Sabha seat, Dr Rajdeep Roy was in holi mood with party workers and leaders who thronged his residence at Bilpar of this town. His nomination was not unexpected, considering his contributions in consolidating the organizational base of the party.

As the State spokesperson of the saffron party, he has been well coordinating with the Central, State and district leadership, besides maintaining rapport with workers. He knows challenge before him is great, but he is confident of facing it and wrest the Silchar LS seat now being held by Sushmita Dev. She won in 2014 by defeating the heavy weight BJP leader Kabindra Purkayastha. Purkayastha in his 80 plus was not considered by the central selection body. Above 70 as a principle, great leaders like Lal Krishna Advani, Murli Mohan Joshi among others have also been sidelined.

Dr Rajdeep Roy has to target Sushmita Dev and he made it clear during his encounter with media-persons. The sitting MP has failed to implement any development works in any of the seven assembly constituencies of Cachar. Thirty to 35% of her fund has gone back unutilized. In fact, she could not utilize her MP area development fund properly, he alleged.

Roy said, “The people of this valley by and large want Citizenship (Amendment) Bill passed but due to the hurdles created by Congress. The role of Sushmita Dev has been quite enigmatic, taking different stand and speaking different language on CAB. She spoke one thing in Delhi and Dispur and another thing in the valley. People cant not support her on this most sensitive issue with which is linked the fate of many of them. If he is confident of his victory, he is also hopeful of the return of Kripa Nath Mala, candidate for Karimganj LS (seat).”

The question is what about the strategy to regain both the Lok Sabha seats. Till now, leaders and workers at all levels have not made any efforts on the ground for mobilizing public support or in wooing the voters. Party national general secretary, Amit Shah, at a booth level party workers at Guwahati, called upon them to begin the campaign with in charge of page wise voters’ lists of their respective areas. This was repeated by the Deputy Chief Minister of UP, Keshab Prasad Maurya, at workers meet here also. Mere rhetoric will not do. Winning election is more of chemistry than arithmetic.
