Drug abuse, cyber crime & traffic awareness programme held

SHILLONG, April 16: The East Khasi Hills District Police launched an awareness programme on drugs abuse, traffic and cyber crimes as part of the Safe and Secure Shillong project at Dim Hall Jaiaw here on Thursday. Addressing the students, Sanjay Goyal said: “Drugs and alcohol lead to cases of theft and other crimes.” Stating that alcohol destroys the family and society as a whole, he said, “We want to sensitize the students about this important aspect and make them partners for achieving a safe and secure society, state and tion.” The Deputy Commissioner said that many people from the state have been duped by cyber frauds despite the awareness by by the Superintendent of Police. M Kharkrang, East Khasi Hills District Superintendent of Police (SP), expressed concern over the increasing crimes related to drug abuse in the city.  The total cases reported under NPDS Act during 2009-2014 in East Khasi Hills District are 55 and the number of arrest made under NPDS Act from 2010-2014 is 63.
