Drug dealers using users for drug peddling

SHILLONG, March 3: Superintendent of Police, CID, Claudia Lyngwa on Friday said drug dealers in Shillong has been utilizing drug users to peddle drugs in and around the city with an assurance that the peddlers will get their fare share of the drugs once they have completed their duties.

Speaking as the Chief Guest at a two day workshop on “Drug Abuse Prevention” which started today at St. Anthony’s College, Shillong, Lyngwa said, “The addiction to drugs is a sickness, hence there is a need for family members of a drug user that they should encourage him or her so that treatment can be done. There is also a need for the users to have a strong will if he wants to relief himself from the habit.”

The SP urged the youths participating in the workshop that they should be able to say ‘No’ to drugs which is substance which can destroy their lives and the society as a whole.

She said the drug ‘heroin’ cost around Rs.1500 to 2000 for a small gram.
