TINSUKIA, June 2: After Dibrugarh University (DU) authority drew flak from the ACTA over the implementation of Credit Based Choice System (CBCS) in degree level from this current academic session, the DU finally conceded the demand to constitute a Joint Review Committee (JRC) to study ground status of the colleges before implementation.

The DU in its 114th meeting of the Academic Council constituted a JRC comprising of three members from college principals - Dr Balendra Kumar Das, former Principal of Pachim Guwahati College, Dr Dip Saikia of Digboi College and Dr A Hazarika of Bihpuria College, and three members from college teachers- Biren Barua of Dibru College, Debajit Phukan of D R College and Dipankar Sarma of MDKG College. The two members from university teachers are Prof M Hazarika, Dean School of Education, and Prof AB Rajkonwar, Dean School of Commerce and Management. Two student representatives will be nominated by DUPGSU and Director, College Development Council DU as member convener. The committee will submit the report within three months effective from May 17, stated a notification.

The terms of references outlined are status of human resources in terms of department and subject wise strength of teaching and non-teaching staff, infrastructure of the colleges, ICT facilities and inflow of funds from different agencies and their utilization in the last five years.

After the DU authority unilaterally decided to implement CBCS in TDC syllabus from this academic session, there was a stiff opposition from all affiliated colleges of DU, including ACTA central body, to put implementation in abeyance till certain conditions were fulfilled.
