Durga Puja Celebrations Passed off Peacefully

Hailakandi: Durga Puja celebrations passed off smoothly and peacefully with the immersion of deities of Goddess Durga at different immersion sites across Hailakandi district. Immersion of deities began at around 4 pm on Friday amidst tight security. Immersion took place at Hailakandi Gandhi Ghat, College Road, Lala, Katlicherra and Panchgram with the district administration headed by Deputy Commissioner Adil Khan overseeing the necessary arrangements, including security, makeshift platforms for immersion.

The roads leading to the immersion sites were cleared of obstacles and traffic regulated thus ensuring smooth and hassle-free movement of trucks laden with dieties of Goddess Durga. The administration had in a meeting asked the puja committees to strictly adhere to the guidelines set by the administration for smooth celebrations of the festivity.

The immersion at different places of the district got over before the deadline of 10 pm as stipulated by the administration. Around 300 deities were immersed. There were no reports of any untoward incident throughout the four-day festivity. The administration had declared a dry day on Vijaya Dashami to avert any mishap and to maintain peace and tranquility.

Deputy Commissioner Adil Khan thanked the devotees, Durga Puja organisers and police for making the festival joyous, peaceful and disciplined. Khan also thanked the volunteers and members of the puja committees for their total cooperation and overwhelming support in making the festival a grand success.

Dibrugarh: Along with other places, the believers ushered in Durga Puja with great gusto in Dibrugarh as well. Hordes of people, from the town as well as from regions lying in the periphery, were seen flocking the puja mandaps from early in the day. They were spotted paying obeisance to Goddess Durga and collecting their share of prasad. The young blood was seen having a good time with friends, with the occasional gale of laughter filling the air. The festival has also set the stage for the promotion of inter-faith harmony and bonhomie. Like every year, this year too, the occasion has broken through all the man-made defences and attracted people across all religions and culture. Creativity being such a crowd-puller, Durga Puja, with its so many creative expressions, appeals to a wide section of the society, traversing many barriers otherwise left untouched.

TANGLA: The pomp and gaiety that gripped people of the town during Durga Puja along with other parts of the country came to an end on Friday evening as the idols of the goddess of strength were immersed in water with traditional religious fervour. Amidst the sounds of hymns, drums and cymbals, the devotees visited different puja mandaps of the town during the puja days to seek divine blessings of Goddess Durga.

The devotees of 42 puja mandaps of the town took out huge procession in the evening on the way to Nonai and Naika -the two rivers of Tangla for immersion. Throughout the puja days, large number of revellers thronged the town. The town literally turned into a sea of humanity as thousands of people on both sides of the roads pulled out of their homes to catch a glimpse of the trucks carrying the idols for immersion. The Bhergaon sub-divisional administration made special arrangement to facilitate the immersion ceremony smoothly. Security forces were heavily guarding the immersion venues with firefighting personnel, deployed to tackle emergency situation.

Dhekiajuli: The 5-day Durga Puja festival came to an end on Dashami with the immersion of Durga Devi idols on Friday evening here in Dhekiajuli subdivision. People in large numbers lined up in both sides of the NH-15, Dhekiajuli town before noon on Friday to watch and bid farewell to Goddess Durga whose idols were brought on trucks and power tractors by the puja organizing committees followed by the respective committee members, devotees and other jubilant youths on foot in the evening of Friday.

Idols immersion programme started from 3 pm onwards at the Belsiri river ghat where local administration made necessary adequate arrangement for systematic and peaceful immersion process. Deployment of police personnel in large numbers at the immersion site made it easy for smooth immersion process.

Haflong: With the immersion of idols at Haflong lake, the five-day Durga Puja festivities came to an end on Friday passing off peacefully. This year as many as 66 puja pandals were there throughout the district. At Haflong – 22, Umrangso-15, Maibang—7 Diyungmukh—5, Dehangi-1, Langting –7, Harangajao -6 , Mahur -3 .

Pujas at Haflong Town Kalibari, Jaganath Bari, Ramkrishna Mission, Devi Mandir were celebrated according to the old tradition and rituals. This time puja at Haflong police station was done involving all the police personnel, even the decoration was done by the policemen.

This year Railway employees of New Haflong station had organised puja for the first time at New Haflong. The Chief Executive Member, NC Hills Autonomous Council Debolal Gorlosa while appealing the people of Dima Hasao to observe the Durga Puja peacefully extended his best wishes for the puja. This time puja was celebrated with great enthusiasm.
