Dutee breaks own record, wins gold in 100m

GUWAHATI, June 29: India sprinter Dutee Chand today break her own national record before winning gold in womens 100m in the 58th National Inter State Senior Athletics Championship at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium here today.

Dutee, the fastest women in the meet, set new national record broking the previous one set by herself, when she clocked 11.29 seconds in the heat in the morning. Later in the evening the athlete from Odisha clocked 11.32 seconds to win gold. Ranga from Manipur and Reena George (Karnataka) collected silver and bronze respectively.

Meanwhile VK Elakkiya Dasan of Tamil Nadu collected gold medal in the mens 100mts race with 10.39.However he failed to touch or break the qualification mark of Asian Games. Jyotisankar Debnath (Andhra Pradesh) and Siva Kumar (Tamil Nadu) collected silver and bronze medal respectively in the event.

Jinson Jhonson bagged another gold medal in the competition today and this time in the mens 1500m. Although he today narrowly missed the Asian Games qualification marks which is 3:45.00 but didn’t face too much problem to win gold in the event with the timing 3:45.12.Chitra (Kerala), Monika Chaudhary (Uttar Pradesh) and Jhuma Khatun (Uttar Pradesh) finished first, second and third respectively in the womens section. The trio along with fourth position winner Lili Das (West Bengal) also breached the Asian Games qualifying time today. G Lakshmanan of Tamil Nadu and Sanjeevini Jadhav of Maharashtra finished first in the men and women 10,000m race respectively.

In the mens hammer throw Ashish Jakhar of Haryana collected gold medal while Navjeet Kaur Dhillon of Punjab bagged the gold medal in the womens shotput.
