EC led by Syiem ‘one man show’: Sawkmie

FROM A REPORTER

SHILLONG, Feb 20: Agitated by the non-compliance of the KHADC CEM PN Syiem to place the inquiry report into the mis-utilization of Professiol Tax of the Council on the first day the KHADC session, former Dy CEM P T Sawkmie termed the Executive Committee (EC) led by Syiem a ‘one man show’ during the question hour. Sawkmei was then the Dy CEM under the PDF led P N Syiem till last year.

Sawkmie pointed out that the report should have been placed in the house today (Monday) so that the members can study it and deliberate the findings on the last two days of the Council session.

However the KHADC CEM refused to place the finding by saying that the report will only be placed in the last two days of the Council session and if there is a need to extend the session then it will be extended.

Reacting to the reply from the CEM, Sawkmie said, “Every decision is being taken by you (Syiem) this is a one man show.”

The former Dy CEM further inquired whether there is any suggestion from the inquiry committee to file and FIR or take crimil action against the accused.

To this, the CEM without making any comment with regard to the FIR said, “The inquiry report is the property of the House because it was constituted under the direction of the house.”

He, however, requested patience from the members of the House until the report is placed during the session.

“After the report is placed in the House we can have discussion on the report and later take a decision on what steps or action to be taken,” Syiem said.

Sawkmei further question whether it’s true or not that the amount Rs. 1.50 crores was deposited to persol account and if the money has been repaid to the Council.

In this connection the CEM replied, “Everything will be reflected in the inquiry report.”

Voicing the same views as Sawkmei, Nongkrem MDC and former KHADC CEM, H S Shylla questioned the EC by saying, “What difficulty or problem is there to place the inquire report in the floor of the house right now?.”

To which the KHADC Chief replied, “There is no problem to place the reply at any given time however it will be placed at the convenience of the EC.”

He added, “I understand that there will be plenty of queries which will be directed to the EC hence we need to equip ourselves, therefore we will place the report in the last two days of the Council session.”
