Education Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya Releases Law Journal At Gauhati University

GUWAHATI: The Faculty of Law, Gauhati University released its two acclaimed journals - the Gauhati University Journal of law (GUJL) and the Vidhijyoti recently in the conference hall in its premises. The ceremony was graced by the presence of the Minister of Education, Law and Justice, Guwahati Development for the Govt of Assam, Siddhartha Bhattacharya, Rector Gauhati University Prof HP Sarma, Registrar Incharge, Gauhati University Prof NG Mahanta and Head of the Department of Gauhati University Prof Subhram Rajkhowa, as well as other faculties of the department, principals and teachers of different law colleges under Gauhati University, Research scholars, lawyers and students.

The proceeding of the meeting was conducted by Assistant Professor of the Department of Law Dipankar Das. The programme commenced with the singing of the anthem of Gauhati University jilikabo luitore paar followed by a Saraswati Vandana. The welcome speech was delivered by Prof Rajkhowa. While releasing the Faculty Journal, Siddhartha Bhattacharya stated that law is an evolving subject and changes with the demand of time. With the advent of technology, courts have moved from manual typewriter to modern tools and a new subject like cyber law is coming up .It has also reduced the burden of the researchers. The Minister further stated that knowledge of law does not only create lawyers or law officers in corporate, but a good and responsible citizen. He expressed his satisfaction with the journals previously published by the department and expressed his expectation that the faculty of law will contribute to create good citizens by providing adequate legal knowledge.

Prof HP Sarma while releasing the Vidhijyoti, a research journal of the department of law, appreciated the endeavor of the department to publish such journals. Registrar in-charge Prof Nani Gopal Mahanta, while expressing his views mentioned about the glories of the university stated that the University has been able to receive A grade from the NAAC, and also a high ranking in the government of India rankings. He states that Gauhati University has made both quantitative and qualitative growth in the recent past years. He also urged that an original copy of the constitution of India may be kept in the department of Law, GU to remind us of our past glories which are beautifully drawn in it. His speech was followed by vote of thanks by Sriparna Rajkhowa, a faculty of the department.
