LAKHIMPUR, July 23: Flaying the U-turn of the BJP government in the State with regard to fulfilment of poll promises such as granting ST status to the six communities of Assam, the non-supply of electricity across the State for 24 hours and not bringing BJP MLA Guru Jyoti Das within the purview of investigation in the cash-for-job scam, the Lakhimpur district body of Youth Congress burnt the effigies of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and State Power Minister Tapan Gogoi on Monday at Malpani Chariali of North Lakhimpur town.

The brother organization of the Congress party lambasted the Union and State governments for not initiating effective move to grant tribal status to the six communities of Assam. The representative organizations of the six communities were allegedly neglected in New Delhi when invited for talks with the Home Ministry.

The organization also vehemently criticized the State government for not investigating MLA Guru Jyoti Das as 4-5 members of his family were allegedly involved in the cash-for-job scam. Shouting various anti-government slogans, the activists of the organization, led by district president Ananda Narah, demanded the State government to fulfil its poll promises and to supply electricity for 24 hours.
