Effigies of Tarun Gogoi, Nilamonisen and Rupjyoti burnt by BJP

SILCHAR, Dec 28: Taking serious exception to the unparliamentary comment of Nilamonisen Deka, former Congress minister, on rendra Modi’s marital status, BJP and its sister organizations today staged protest demonstration against him and set on fire his effigy. At a public meeting in lbari, he is reported to have said, “Smriti Irani is the second wife of rendra Modi”. Also on line of fire was parliamentary secretary Rupjyoti Kurmi for his most objectioble remark about Modi. This has evoked strongest condemtion in the BJP across Barak Valley. The effigy of Tarun Gogoi, Chief Minister, was also burnt for maintaining silence over these comments of his party leaders. The effigies were set ablaze by the infuriated activists of BJP at the Devdoot point of this town today.

The civil society and the cultural bodies have also joined the condemtion of both the Congress leaders and described their comments against the Prime Minister rendra Modi as “highly provocative, uncivilized and ucceptable”. Though Nilmanisen Deka has withdrawn his comment, the protests against him continue. In fact, he has become a controversial figure for his uncalled for comments. He was at the centre of controversy for saying that one could have meals to the fill at a cost of Rs.2.5 paisa. Earlier, he created a furore by his distasteful observation about the character of the people of lower Assam.
