Efforts to conserve Hoolock Gibbon

Itagar, March 4: In an endeavor to conserve the Hoolock Gibbon in eastern parts of Assam and Aruchal Pradesh, ENVIRON, an NGO in collaboration with Sadiya Youth Development Association (SYDA) and Aitjya on Friday organized a youth volunteers training at Sadiya. The programme which was also supported by the U S Fish and Wildlife Services (USFWS) started with a leadership training imparted by primatologist and principal investigator of parental project CHGAAP Dr Kuladip Sarma. “The role of youth in gibbon conservation is intrinsic as only the youths can alter the present habitat scerio of species,” said Dr Sarma who further highlighted the importance of endangered species conservation. The day also saw United tions-World Wildlife Day 2017 being observed. In all 20 local youths of Sadiya sub-division were trained on the occasion.
