Efforts to Reduce Flood at Jorabat, Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Kamrup (M) Deputy Commissioner Virendra Mittal directed the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Settlement Branch, Kamrup (M) and Circle Officer, Sonapur Revenue Circle to clear all the blockages over the drain on both sides of the NH-37 and GS Road for smooth flow of storm water to relieve the public from the havoc of water logging, a release said.

According to the release, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) will provide all necessary logistics for execution of the work.

Notably, the direction was issued after conducting a joint field inspection led by DC, Kamrup (M) along with officials from the line departaments, Circle Officer, Sonapur Revenue Circle and officials from Meghalaya government on August 6.

During the inspection, it was observed that there are numbers of illegal constructions and encroachments over the drains along NH-37 and GS Road which is said to be creating flood havoc, the release added.
