From Our Correspondent
Itagar, May 10: The heat and dust of electioneering for Kanubari by poll scheduled for May 16 is gaining momentum with both the Peoples’ Party of Aruchal (PPA) and Congress leaving no stone unturned to woo the electorates.
Chief Minister Kalikho Pul yesterday addressed an election rally at Kanubari for PPA candidate Gabriel Denwang Wangsu who is locking horns with Jyae Wangsu of the Congress.
“Vote for the ‘party in power’ to accelerate development in the constituency,” Pul said while addressing the voters, an official communiqué informed here today. Appealing the people to vote for PPA, Pul emphasized that his party would not discrimite any constituency on the basis of party line asserting that PPA always stood for ‘development’ and for ‘change’.
The chief minister, however, lashed out at the previous Congress government accusing it of failing to deliver on all fronts – from failing on timely release of salaries and wages, students’ stipend, payment of margil contractors to profiteering on forged bills.
Further slamming the previous government for unscrupulously disqualifying Gabriel Denwang Wangsu and Khonsa East MLA Wanglam Sawin, Pul said the only way people of Kanubari could pay back for the injustice is to vote Wangsu to victory again.
He further assured that the PPA would fulfil “all unfulfilled promises made by the former Chief Minister bam Tuki” for the Longding district and the constituency. Pul also said the party is committed to carry forward the dreams of former minister Newlai Tingkhatra to see development boom in the constituency.
Appreciating the support of several political heavy weights in the constituency for joining hands with the PPA candidate, the chief minister assured that the party is always willing to accommodate the interests of all sections, of people from different political backgrounds for overall development of the constituency.
He thanked Wangrang Wangjen, an independent contestant who later withdrew his nomition for his faith in the ruling party.
By election to the constituency was necessitated after Gabriel resigned.
