Electricity Athletics meet begins in city tomorrow

GUWAHATI, May 5: 40th edition of the All India Electricity Sports Control Board Athletic meet will be held in Guwahati from Thursday. Assam Electricity Board Sports Club (ASEBSC) will be the host of the meet

Disclosing the news in a media conference BK Duari, Director (Personnel), ASEB who is also the president of the ASEBSC, said, "This is for the first time the meet will be held in the North East. Around 180 participants from 14 teams are expected to take part in the championship which will be held at the SAI Sports complex."

Debashish Bose, the secretary of the ASEBSC, added that the iugural function of the tourment will kick off at 10 o'clock on Thursday morning and Jitesh Khosla, the Chief Secretary of Assam will attend the function as a chief guest. There will be altogether 15 disciplines in the meet which included 100mts, 200mts, Javeline, Discuss, Long Jump, High jump etc.

Host team will put 15 members squad in the meet and most of the members of the team are selected from the football squad of ASEBSC. "Although we don't have regular athletes in our organization but many of our footballers are very good in this field and even took part in few district level athletics competitions  also," said Bose.
