Elephant electrocuted in Udalguri

From a Correspondent

DIMAKUCHI, Oct 29: Untural death of wild elephants in Udalguri district has posed serious threat to the wild elephant population in the district. In another tragic incident, an elephant was electrocuted near Kaladi at Samrang in Udalguri district on Friday night.

According to information, the elephant died on spot after it came into contact with a 11,000-volt loosely erected uuthorized electric wire. All such loose electric lines have been posing a threat to wild elephants as well as people.

There is an allegation that electric transformers are kept exposed and electric poles are bent down by local people so as to harm rampaging wild elephants when they approach human settlements in search of food.
