Eminent medical practitioner passes away

Mangaldai, February 1 : Dr lini Kanta Sharma (65), an eminent medicine specialist, retired Additiol Chief Medical and Health Officer and a resident of ward no 1, Mangaldai passed away on Monday at around 2 pm at a private hospital in Guwahati after a brief illness.
Born in Torajan , Jorhat, Dr Shrama overcame physical disability and secured first rank in the HSLC examition. He got his MBBS degree from Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh in the academic session 1973-74 and subsequently acquired post graduate degree in Medicine from the same college. Since he joined as a medical officer in Mangaldai Civil Hospital in 1982, he considered his rented house at ward no 1,Mangaldai as his second home and continued serving the people of Darrang district till he was admitted in a hospital in Mangaldai and then shifted to Guwahati for better treatment.
A differently-abled Dr Sharma amidst some ups and downs took voluntary retirement from government service as an Additiol Chief Medical and Health Officer. His demise has created a void among the medical fraternity here. Many public organizations including Mangaldai Branch of the Indian Medical Association, Darrang Drug Dealers Association, Crystal Vision and Electronic Media Association of Darrang have expressed deep condolence at the death of Dr Sharma and prayed for the eterl peace of his departed soul.
All the medicine sellers here today observed an hour bandh from 5 pm as a mark of respect to Dr Sharma. He leaves behind his teacher wife, two twin sons and two daughters along with a host of friends and relatives.
