From our Correspondent

Mangaldai, Feb 15: Hyderabad-based eminent surgeon and Padmashree recipient Dr Sarbeswar Sahariah, who has performed nearly 4,000 successful kidney transplant cases, will address a public awareness function on organ dotion here in Mangaldai on Friday.

Every month, on an average 300 patients from Assam with complaints of kidney and other major organ failure visit hospitals in leading  cities of the country like Mumbai, Delhi and Hyderabad for  super-specialty treatment. In most of such cases, there no medical treatment is left except organ transplantation. However, due to the lack of suitable organ donors, these patients cannot be saved.

Keeping this in mind and to create public awareness in this regard, two non-government organizations Crystal Vision , Mangaldai and North East Care Foundation, Guwahati have jointly organized a public awareness programme on organ dotion  here at Youth Club on Friday.

Dr Sahariah will deliver the key-note address as the guest speaker while Deputy Commissioner, Darrang, Ashok Kr Barman will iugurate the function. The programme, which will be chaired by renowned physician and litterateur Dr Rama Kanta Bora, will also be attended by Gurujyoti Das , MLA of Mangaldai, as the special guest.
