Empower persons with disabilities: Lowangdong

Itagar, March 20: Social justice, Empowerment & Tribal Affairs Minister Wanglin Lowangdong said that persons with multiple disabilities have equal rights like any other citizen to maintain a quality life.

Addressing a regiol conference on multiple disabilities held here yesterday, Lowangdong called for a combined effort and equal participation of professiols and society at large in achieving the goal of empowering the persons with multiple disabilities, informed an official release.

Describing the day as a red letter day for the state, the minister emphasized on inculcating hygiene sense among the people in checking various diseases in rural areas. He also appreciated the visiting officials of tiol Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disabilities (NEIPMD) for their active participation on the issue and hoped that this would facilitate reaching to the unreached and achieving the goal. The conference was organized by Cheni based NIEPMD in collaboration with department of Social Justice & Empowerment and Tribal Affairs. Parliamentary Secretary SJE and Tribal Affairs, Karya Bagang said that the teachers and NGO’s should act as guardians and play a pivotal role in tapping out talents beneath the person with disabilities. She further called upon the NGOs and similar organizations to explore the far flung areas of the state to record and identify the cases relating to multiple disabilities. Highlighting the aims and objectives of the NEIMPD, Dr Vijayalakshmy emphasized on proper educatiol and vocatiol programmes while understanding the persons with multiple disabilities in the remote and far flung areas of the state. She presented a brief power-point presentation on the introduction and causes associated with multiple disabilities and disability certification amid the medical practitioners and differently abled students. Vijayalakshmy informed that the NIEMPD undertakes development of human resource for magement, training, rehabilitation, education, employment and social development of persons with multiple disabilities, besides promoting and conducting research in all areas relating to the issue, added the release.
