Empower PRIs by effective devolution of power: Chand

Itagar, February 13: Union Minister of State for Panchayati Raj Nihal Chand Meghwal has stressed on the need to empower Panchayats, through effective devolution of power and functions.

The minister who visited the Bamboo Processing Unit at Poma near here yesterday, while addressing the panchayat leaders of the area said that Panchayati Raj in Aruchal is the oldest and the grass root democratic institutions need to be empowered, an official release informed here today.

He said that Gram Panchayat was most important part of the Panchayati Raj system and tion would only progress if the gram panchayats were strengthened and empowered.

The minister also announced to provide 15 lakhs for construction of GPC building at Poma and computers sets to all gram panchayats through e-PRI project of the Centre. During his visit, the minister was accompanied by RD Parliamentary Secretary Punji Mara, Joint Secretary Panchayati Raj, RD Secretary, DC Papum Pare, Director Panchayat and members of Panchayat Coordition Committee. Meanwhile, Zilla Parishad Member of Sangdupota, Gollo Takam apprised the minister about the problems and grievances faced by the Panchayat members and expressed that his visit would bring good results for the panchayats of Poma and Aruchal as a whole, the release added.
