‘Enforce inner line permit in Assam’

GUWAHATI, June 14: The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba-Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) has demanded introduction of interstate inner line permit system in Assam to safeguard the ethnic communities of the state. In a communiqué, the AJYCP president Putul Dutta and general secretary Palash Sangmai said that without introduction of the inner line permit system, the indigenous communities and the ethnic tribes of the state will encounter extinction threat due to rapid infiltration of foreign nationals from neighboring countries besides aggression from outside the state.

The duo said that since post independent period, the state has been heavily burdened with large scale migration of foreign nationals and aggression from outside the state leading the indigenous communities to become minority in their home land. “Anticipating the present state of affairs, the AJYCP has been playing a part in persistent movement and as early as 1978, we demanded inner line system to safeguard the state,” the duo said.
