GUWAHATI: An enforcement team of Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has been performing a drive since the past six days. The drive is to oversee hygiene conditions and other issues of contamination and safety norms. GMC collector Loni Borpatra Gohain said, “The audit is performed to check inventory, ensure proper hygiene and verify trade license. The investigations will persist in the future as well.”
In today’s drive, a few of the shops in the city have closed down temporarily. This has created a stir in the market. Moreover, penalty fees are also a part of the reprimand. A sum of Rs. 62,000 on Friday, Rs. 89,000 on Saturday, Rs. 1,27,000 on Monday, Rs. 1,12,500 on Tuesday and Rs. 84,500 on Wednesday was collected. Altogether, a hefty amount of Rs. 4,75,000 have been collected so far. The investigation is performed keeping the health of the public in mind and is a step in the right direction by the enforcement team of GMC.
