'Environment Day should be an every day affair'

Shillong, June 6: Meghalaya legislator Jemino Mawthoh today said various environmental schemes of the State Government have failed and new strategies should to be adopted to protect the environment.

Mawthoh said thousands of saplings have been planted on World Environment Day and questioned as to how many of these saplings survive to grow into trees. Speaking at a World Environment Day programme organized by Seng Samla Dongktieh, Nongrah in the city Mawthoh said World Environment Day should not be a pompous one day affair. "World Environment Day should be an everyday affair," Mawthoh said, adding all the efforts in this direction should be sustained throughout the year to reap the desired results.
