Numaligarh: Erosion due to the River Dhansiri continues that swallows hectares of agricultural land in different parts of Golaghat district. Areas like Numaligarh-Kamargaon and Borgoria Chapori are witnessing massive erosion.

Borgoria Majar Sharif, an important religious establishment of Islamic faith near Numaligarh Refinery, is also facing the threat of erosion. The road connecting Borgoria- Ponka-Bochapori is just metres away from the erosion point and may be washed away by River Dhansiri at any time. People are upset as no anti-erosion measures have been taken by the Water Resources Department to save the road. Other areas of Morangi like Da-Gaon, Aborghat, Mithaam Chapori, Jathipotia and Dukhutimukh are also facing erosion since decades and displacement of people living on the banks is another major issue here.

The geo-bag embankment project of the Department of Water Resources at River Dhansiri has been washed out at Apeswari Ghat of Kamargaon area under Bokakhat subdivision, posing a threat to the historic Dhodar Ali road. People of the area have demanded the district administration and the State Water Resources Minister Keshab Mahanta to visit the erosion-affected areas and to take up anti-erosion measures soon.
