Error-Free NRC A Must: Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) General House

GUWAHATI: The General House of the AGP has made it clear that an error-free NRC is a must, and that the party will continue cooperate with the State NRC authority for the interest of a correct NRC.

The General House, the top body of the regional party, met at party headquarters at Ambari in Guwahati on Wednesday. Presided over by party president Atul Bora, the meeting rued the fact that a section of people in the State is trying to derail the NRC update process. “An error-free NRC is a must. We’re cooperating with the State NRC authority, and we’ll continue to do so in the interest of a correct NRC,” the meeting said, and that a team of the party would meet State NRC coordinator Prateek Hajela.

Meanwhile, the General Council put its seal on all the decisions taken by the Central Executive Committee of that had met on Tuesday. The meeting made it clear that the party would not tolerate indiscipline of any sort. It approved the central executive committee’s decision authorizing party president Atul Bora to form a three-member disciplinary committee and the decision to amend the constitution of the party.

The General House took a decision to go to New Delhi after the formation of the new government with three issues – constitutional safeguards to the indigenous people of Assam, according ST status to six ethnic groups of the State and revival of the two HPC paper mills and Ashok Paper Mill.
