MORIGAON, July 22: The 28th establishment day of All Tiwa Women Association (ATWA) was observed on Sunday at Morigaon Gandhi Bhavan. The programme started with hoisting of the organization’s flag by Junali Mithi, president of ATWA. Thereafter, Binapani Puma, vice-president of ATWA, lit the ceremonial lamp and floral tribute was offered by Tutumoni Dekaraja, general secretary.

An open meeting was held where Paban Manta, CEM of Tiwa Autonomous Council (TAC) said that the ATWA had been working for the uplift of the Tiwa community since 1990. “The women of our community will get their rights soon,” he added.

On the other hand, Anil Franjong, president of TPC, said that the Tiwa women had been deprived of basic amenities due to the negligence of the leaders of the TAC. He said that the present CEM had taken steps to provide benefits to women under welfare schemes but had failed because he did not get the full cooperation of the leaders of the TAC.
