Ethnic organizations seek Congress ticket for ATASU leader

DULIAJAN, January24:  Various ethnic groups have slammed the Congress MLA of 118 Duliajan legislative assembly constituency, Amiya Gogoi, for her alleged failure in developing the constituency and for allegedly taking advantage of her position to expand her family business.

The Jagushtiya Oikya Mancha comprising organizations like All Tai Ahom Students’ Union (ATASU), Sonowal Kachari Students’ Union (SKSU),Chutia Students’ Union (CSU), Koch Rajbonshi Students’ Union (KRSU) ,Goorkha Students’ Union  (GSU) and Adivasi Students’ Union (ASU), is in favour of Miram Gogoi, president of Dibrugarh district committee of ATASU, getting the Congress ticket from Duliajan constituency  in the forthcoming assembly elections. The ethnic organizations want a candidate who would work sincerely for the developing of the ethnic communities and according to them Miram Gogoi has been dedicatedly working towards the development of the six indigenous communities in Duliajan and its neighbouring areas as president of Jagushtiya Oikya Mancha as well as the president of Dibrugarh district committee of ATASU, for which he is a popular leader in the constituency.

Almost 43,000 voters of Ahom community; 28,000 voters of tribal community; around 9,000 voters of Nepali community, 4,000 voters of minority community; 6,000 voters of general caste, 2,800 voters of Mottock community; 3,600 voters of Chutia community and other 2,000 voters will decide the fate of candidates in the forthcoming election in the Duliajan constituency.
