Eviction drive at Dhubri

DHUBRI, Dec 1: Eviction drive against the encroachers along the river front and road side from Rajiv Gandhi Park to Bansh Ghat, was conducted by Dhubri Circle officer, J. Sarma at the insistance of Dhubri Deputy Commissioner, Ant Lal Gyani on Wednesday and Friday. An official source also informed that complying with the High Court and state government orders, eviction was also carried in Alomganj area of Dhubri district on Friday.

Here in Dhubri, nearly 100 shops including some RCC  structure were demolished and land was handed over to Dhubri Municipal Board. Later Board officials barricaded the vacant land. “The entire river bank and road in front of Treasury Office, DC office, Dak Bungalow, DFO residence, DC Bungalow, SP Bungalow and Dhubri Zila Parishad, was under the grip of severe encroachment by new settlers. A number of times, they were evicted but mushroomed again,” said Prosenjit Dutta, secretary of Dhubri district unit BJP.

Talking To The Sentinel, Dhubri Circle Officer, J.Sarma informed they had cleared the encroachment and asked the Dhubri Municipal Board to take over the vacant land under their possession. “We wanted to carry the eviction drive for few more days, but due to renewed order  to expedite the NRC works, eviction against the road and pavement encroachers will remain off for the time being. However, we will continue to appeal to the encroachers through Fixed Loud Speakers (FLS) to dismantle their uuthorized structure by the road sides and  clear  all the pavements”, Sarma added.
